Avs Acquire Tomas Fleischmann

The Avalanche announced today that the team has acquired forward Tomas Fleischmann from the Capitals in exchange for defenseman Scott Hannan. Fleischmann, 26, has tallied 10 points in 23 games for the Capitals this season. In 2009-10, the Koprivnice, Czech Republic native set career highs in goals (23), assists (28) and points (51) in 69 games for Washington. ?First and foremost, I would like to thank Scott Hannan for his services to our organization and wish him the best,? said Avalanche GM/Executive Vice President Greg Sherman. ?In Tomas we are acquiring a top-six forward who is only 26 years old. His addition will bolster our lineup immediately.? Fleischmann has represented his country in numerous international competitions, including the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, where he had three points in five games. Hannan, 31, has spent the last three-plus seasons with the Avalanche, tallying 53 points in 267 games for Colorado.

Avs Trade Cohen To Bruins For Hunwick

The Avalanche announced today that the team has acquired defenseman Matt Hunwick from the Bruins in exchange for defenseman Colby Cohen. Hunwick, 25, has skated in all 22 games for the Bruins this season, tallying a goal and two assists with a +4 plus/minus rating. ?Matt is another young defenseman who can contribute to our lineup right away,? said Avalanche GM/Executive Vice President Greg Sherman. Cohen, who was Colorado?s second-round selection (45th overall) in the 2007 Entry Draft, made his NHL debut with Avalanche earlier this month, appearing in three games.

Ducks Send Ryan Carter To Hurricanes

The Ducks announced today that the club has acquired center Stefan Chaput and right wing Matt Kennedy from the Hurricanes in exchange for center Ryan Carter. Chaput, 22, has played in 20 games with Charlotte this season, Carolina?s primary AHL affiliate, recording three assists with nine penalty minutes. He was drafted by Carolina in the fifth round (153rd overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. Kennedy, 21, has played in eight games with Charlotte this season, recording one assist with six PIM. With Barrie of the OHL last season). Kennedy had 15 points with a +13 rating in 17 playoff games, leading the club to the OHL Finals. Carter, 27, appeared in 18 contests for the Ducks this season, scoring 1-2=3 points with 22 PIM. Signed as a free agent on July 12, 2006, Carter has appeared in 138 career NHL games over four seasons with Anaheim.

Rangers And Ducks Swap Defenseman

Rangers President and GM Glen Sather announced today that the club has acquired defenseman Stu Bickel from the Ducks in exchange for defenseman Nigel Williams. Bickel, 24, has registered three assists and 14 penalty minutes in six games with the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL this season. He currently ranks third among team defensemen in penalty minutes. Williams, 22, has registered one assist in 12 games with Hartford (AHL) this season. The Aurora, Illinois native was originally Colorado?s second round choice, 51st overall, in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

Anaheim Completes Four Player Trade With Flyers

The Ducks announced today that the club has acquired left wing Patrick Maroon and right wing David Laliberte from the Flyers in exchange for defenseman Danny Syvret and center Rob Bordson. Laliberte, 24, has appeared in 18 games with the Adirondack Phantoms (Philadelphia?s AHL affiliate) this season, scoring 2-6=8 points with 20 penalty minutes. Maroon, 22, has played in nine games with the Phantoms this season, scoring 5-3=8 points with 30 PIM. Syvret, 25, appeared in six games for the Ducks this season, earning 1-1=2 points with four PIM. Bordson, 22, made his professional debut with Syracuse this season, collecting 1-2=3 points with four PIM in 15 AHL games.

Calgary Trades Sutter To Carolina

The Flames traded defenseman Ian White and forward Brett Sutter to the Hurricanes for defenseman Anton Babchuk and forward Tom Kostopoulos. Sutter, 23, was briefly jailed on suspicion of assault Nov. 11 in Scottsdale, Ariz., after he allegedly punched a man as the two were leaving a bar at closing time.

The Avalanche announced today that the team has acquired defenseman Ryan O?Byrne from the Canadiens in exchange for forward prospect Michael Bournival. O?Byrne, 26, has skated in three games for the Canadiens this season, tallying no points and four penalty minutes. The defenseman was Montreal?s third-round pick (79th overall) in the 2003 Entry Draft. He dressed in a career-high 55 games during the 2009-10 season and also appeared in 13 of Montreal?s 19 playoff contests. ?Ryan is another young defenseman who will add size and depth to our team,? said Avalanche GM/Executive Vice President Greg Sherman. A native of Victoria, B.C., O?Byrne has appeared in 128 career NHL games, tallying 16 points and 181 PIM. He played three seasons for Cornell University (ECAC) prior to signing with Montreal. Bournival was Colorado?s third selection (third round, 71st overall) in the 2010 Entry Draft and currently plays for the Shawinigan Cataractes of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
